Weights
If your budget does not allow you to buy state of the art running or rowing equipment all at the same time, start with some free weights and an exercise bench. You can feel yourself getting fitter when you build up muscle and do some gentle cardio. If you really want to increase your heart rate then use an exercise DVD and have a small TV in your new gym.
Machines
If you can afford it then buying a cardio machine is a good idea. Some popular machines include treadmills, standstill bikes and cross trainers. Some can be expensive but you could buy a machine for less than you would pay for a gym membership.
